WebThe dwarf doesn't stand on the tile that he's channelling down unless he has no other choice. If he can stand on an adjacent tile, he won't channel himself down into magma. When he's done channeling, you'll see a red double tilde labeled 'open space' that is clearly hot air over magma. I use a fortification, not a floodgate.
