WebbI've been re-reading "The Prelude" from the power and conflict section of the AQA English anthology. The whole thing is a sexual innuendo in my opinion. Read the poem and you'll notice that it's basically describing Wordsworth losing his virginity "within a rocky cove." Here are some examples of quotes that prove this: • "I unloosed her chain" Webb"Towered up between me and the stars" He is beginning to separate himself from nature. "And measured motion like a living thing" Alliteration - stumbling over his words in fear. "in grave and serious mood" Symbolises the death of his innocence.
